Finding city funds for 71/MLK interchange project

Construction could start as soon as next summer on a plan to build an interchange with Interstate 71 and Martin Luther King Drive in Cincinnati.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is fast-tracking the project and could select a consultant and contractor by the end of the year.

But Cincinnati officials are still working to find a $20 million match for the construction.

City Transportation and Engineering Director Michael Moore explained that Tuesday during a Major Transportation and Infrastructure Projects Subcommittee meeting.

Council still debating parking lease even with favorable court rulings

Update 6/17/13 9:50 PM: Hamilton County Judge Robert Winkler signed an order Monday dissolving permanent injunction in the Cincinnati parking lease case. Judge Winkler also entered a judgment in favor of the city and against the plaintiffs. Costs to be paid by plaintiffs.

Head of new department at City Hall named.

When Cincinnati City Council passed its new budget, it also combined two departments. The Community Development and Economic Development offices will now be one Department of Trade and Development.

The head of the Former Economic Development office, Odis Jones, will head the new office.

Former Community Development head, Michael Cervay, will take a position in the Finance Department.

The changes take effect July 1.

Cincinnati retirement system not healthy

Cincinnati officials are again looking for solutions after another bad report on the city's retirement system. It added another $133 million to its unfunded liability last year.

Council's Budget and Finance Committee heard the presentation Monday.

One Council Member asked if the city can invest its way out of trouble.

Eric Gary, an actuary with Cavanaugh MacDonald, said maybe.
