Focus on Technology http://wmub.org en GE facility gives glimpse of 3D printer future http://wmub.org/post/ge-facility-gives-glimpse-3d-printer-future
GE Aviation has so much faith in 3D printing that it will soon relocate its Sharonville facility to a much larger space. GE bought what used to be called Morris Technologies in 2012. Morris was the first to introduce 3D metallic based technology to North America.

The technology works by taking a very fine grain metal powder and thinly layering it using a laser. This is different than taking solid material and subtracting it to make a part, like is done in machining.
Wed, 09 Apr 2014 18:00:00 +0000 Ann Thompson 21882 at http://wmub.org GE facility gives glimpse of 3D printer future Cincinnati Reds find new ways to connect with fans http://wmub.org/post/cincinnati-reds-find-new-ways-connect-fans
If just watching the game isn't enough for you, the Cincinnati Reds want to keep you engaged with new technology at Great American Ball Park. This year the team has invested in:

Instant Replay

Reds Connect Zone

iBeacons

At ballparks throughout the country teams are making instant replay available on the main video board. At Great American they are also on smaller monitors throughout the stadium.
Wed, 02 Apr 2014 18:00:00 +0000 Ann Thompson 24955 at http://wmub.org Cincinnati Reds find new ways to connect with fans Google Glass is a hit at the hospital http://wmub.org/post/google-glass-hit-hospital
Outside patient rooms at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center there's a Quick Response (QR) code on the wall. The electrons zip through the panels to create electricity in a very efficient manner. But what if scientists could create the same efficiency in a different material that was cheaper?

Fei Yu, a University of Cincinnati doctoral student in materials engineering, is studying how to make polymer solar cells more efficient. Right now their performance is well below the most efficient silicon solar panels.

Why polymers:
Wed, 19 Mar 2014 18:00:00 +0000 Ann Thompson 24375 at http://wmub.org Making solar panels better and cheaper African space agency, a giant leap for some http://wmub.org/post/african-space-agency-giant-leap-some
This fall members of the African Union Commission are scheduled to release their recommendations for an African Space Agency. The feasibility study is chaired by South Africa and includes Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt and Algeria.

For some, a space agency is the likely next step. Since 2010 satellite capacity across the continent has almost tripled, helping to fuel Africa's mobile revolution, according to University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering professor Grant Schaffner.
Wed, 12 Mar 2014 18:00:00 +0000 Ann Thompson 24078 at http://wmub.org African space agency, a giant leap for some
