Green roof research growing

The green roof concept is gaining traction with builders and the eco-conscious but a successful green roof requires more than just planting some vegetation.

A University of Cincinnati pilot study finds some native plants are more successful in our climate than others.

Student Jill Bader and Assistant biology professor Ishi Buffam were surprised to discover a member of the onion family fared best.

"It looks delicate, I think. The foliage is long and thin and it has a very delicate flower. It doesn't look tough but it is," says Bader.

Cincinnati Council to vote on borrowing money for projects

Cincinnati Council will likely vote next week to borrow $37 million to fund economic development projects in the city and to cover a portion of the costs of the Homeless to Homes plan. 


The Department of Housing and Urban Development would loan the money and the city's Community Development Block Grants would be the collateral. 


The portion for Homeless to Homes to relocate three shelters is generating some concern.

Romney, Ryan rally the troops Friday in West Chester

Friday night - only three days before the election - Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are bringing their campaign to Butler County, one of the deepest mines of GOP votes in the Buckeye State, for a rally in West Chester.

The rally - which also features the presidential candidate's wife, Ann Romney - will be at The Square at Unon Centre, 9285 Centre Point Drive, West Chester.

The doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the program set to begin at 7 p.m.

Duke grant will create riverfront 'garden'

A new green space is coming to the Cincinnati riverfront. Duke Energy is donating nearly a half million dollars over three years to add a garden to Smale Riverfront Park.

Spokesman Blair Schroeder says the plan is create a 'front porch' feel to the city.
