Cincinnati could soon have domestic partner registry

Council Member Chris Seelbach, Mayor Cranley and five other council members are supporting setting up a domestic partner registry.  

Seelbach said the city already has such a system for its own employees.

Gov. John Kasich gave his fourth State of the State speech last night in Medina, and as perhaps fitting for an election year, it was unlike any other he’s delivered.

At a little over an hour, it was John Kasich’s shortest State of the State. And it was certainly the most surprising – for one reason. And it wasn’t political. “I’m humbled to present the 2014 Ohio Courage Medals to Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight – three extraordinary women" said Kasich.

Cincy Council could vote Wednesday on latest parking plan

Cincinnati council and administrators spent much time last year negotiating and defending in court a parking lease with the Port Authority.  Now a new Council is ready to vote on a motion to undo that plan and replace it with something different.

City Council will likely vote Wednesday on a couple motions related to parking in the city.  The Neighborhood Committee approved the items Tuesday.  

Council member Kevin Flynn supported the proposals.

CPD: police-involved shooting 'above board'

Cincinnati's Police Chief say officers responded appropriately Monday during an incident in which the suspect was fatally shot by police.

Chief Jeffrey Blackwell says officers went to the Walnut Hills home of Gregory Sanders after he called 911 saying he'd killed his mother.

"We are, at this point, pretty certain everything was above board; that every division policy was followed, says Blackwell. "The fact is that they were forced to use deadly force by Mr. Gregory Sanders who came out of the house with a rifle."

Dayton names new Fire Chief

Dayton has a new fire chief. Jeff Payne is assuming the position full-time.

He has been interim Fire Chief since July 1, 2013.

Payne is a 25-year veteran of the Dayton Fire Department. He'll oversee more than 350 firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and support staff and a budget of about $36 million.
