With more than 20 years of journalism experience in the Greater Cincinnati market, Ann Thompson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her reporting. She has reported for WKRC, WCKY, WHIO-TV, Metro Networks and CBS/ABC Radio. Her work has been recognized by the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2011 A-P named her “Best Reporter” for large market radio in Ohio. She has won awards from the Association of Women in Communications and the Alliance for Women in Media. Ann reports regularly on science and technology in Focus on Technology.


She has reported from Japan and South Korea, Germany and Belgium as part of fellowships from the East-West Center and RIAS.

Library amnesty day May 15th

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is rewarding the public with an amnesty day, after it won a prestigious national award.

On May 15th you can return your overdue books without owing a fine. If you've already returned them but haven't paid the fine, you're also in the clear. Just bring in your card.

The library amnesty day is the first Director Kim Fender can remember.

Rumpke to save tons of glass from the landfill


Glass makes up 15 percent of what Cincinnatians throw out. Beginning this November, Rumpke will recycle it in a brand new St. Bernard facility that sits on the same site as one that burned down a year ago.


Although Rumpke will also recycle paper, plastics and metals at this facility, a big focus is on glass recycling. Very small, refined recycled glass particles are in big demand by glass container and fiberglass insulation companies.

It's unusual for a public school district to partner with a charter school, but that will happen this fall when Carpe Diem opens inside the new Aiken High School in College Hill. It is one of two schools at Aiken. The other is New-Tech, focused on project-based learning.

One sure way to get a job these days is to be a "Big Data" specialist. These are the people who can interpret massive amounts of information and tell businesses how to use it to make money. It's a very specialized set of skills involving computer science, business and statistics. The Harvard Business Review says the dominant trait among data scientists is an intense curiosity. Case delayed for woman accused of voter fraud

The Madisonville Recreation Center poll worker accused of voting twice, and casting ballots for seven other people in possibly three different elections, was not ready to enter a guilty plea on Wednesday.

Melowese Richardson, when interviewed  by WCPO a few months ago, said she didn't do anything wrong.

On Wednesday, before Hamilton County Judge Robert Ruehlman, her attorney said she wasn't ready to issue a plea.
