Lee Hay

Announcer & Producer

Lee Hay has worked at all three Cincinnati Public Radio stations: WGUC in the mid-70's, WMUB in the late 70's, and WVXU since 1984. She is currently executive producer/host of the award-winning arts program Around Cincinnati Sunday evenings and The Blues on Saturday evenings. Her radio work has been awarded numerous awards including one from the Ohio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, numerous Communicator Awards, Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association. Most recently she has received a Certificate of Merit from the Gabriel Awards for The Journey from Within; and recognition from the Ohio Associated Broadcasters Association for Cincinnati Baseball: Crosley Field (2011) and The Who Concert: 30 Years Later and Baseball: A Little Known Chapter (2010). Hay is also WVXU's music director and with her jazz background was the Cincinnati correspondent for downbeat magazine.

This week’s Blues show starts off with a new song from German musician Tony Hudspeth called “Good Times.”

Kudos to Steeplejack Music in Germany for sending us his cd.  The rest of the program features some of my personal favorites like “Nite Mist Blues” by the Monty Alexander Trio, plus Chet Baker and Johnny Adams.

New book explores the stories of ghosts at a local nightclub

Everyone has heard the stories of how Bobby Mackey’s nightclub in Northern Kentucky is haunted. Now, local author Dan Smith has written the definitive book on these tales, Ghosts of Bobby Mackey's Music World, and he joins Lee Hay to talk about the history of the location, the violence that happened there, and his own personal paranormal experiences.

Roberta Schultz is a member of the local folk group, Raison D’Etre.  She dropped by the studio to talk with Lee Hay about their upcoming concert at The Carnegie in Covington, Kentucky on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:30pm.  The concert’s part of the Carnegie in Concert series and is entitled, “Swing Canaries, Harmony Sisters and Folk Divas.”
