News Director and Morning Edition Host, Host of Impact Cincinnati

In 2005, Maryanne Zeleznik came to 91.7 WVXU from WNKU where she served as News and Public Affairs Director for 20 years. At WVXU she is responsible for all news and public affairs programming, covers daily news, produces local features, regularly contributes news stories to National Public Radio, and hosts the weekly panel discussion program Impact Cincinnati. Zeleznik has won numerous regional and national journalism awards including the Leo C. Lee Award for significant contributions to public radio news from the Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, as well as awards from Ohio Associated Press, Ohio Society of Professional Journalists, and the Cincinnati Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Nitrogen Leak in Camp Washington

No injuries after a nitrogen leak at Queen City Steel Treating Co. on Spring Grove Avenue.  The Cincinnati Fire Department reports a Medic Unit discovered the leak after returning from taking a patient to the hospital.  The leak created a vapor cloud that covered Spring Grove Avenue in Camp Washington and nearby residents were evacuated or sheltered on upper floors. 


The Cincinnati Police worked with the Fire Department to isolate the area and allow the nitrogen to evaporate. Spring Grove and nearby streets were closed until 6:00 A.M.

One of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population is families with children, nationally and here in Greater Cincinnati. During the recent recession many parents have become homeless suddenly and unexpectedly, and now struggle to take care of their children while trying to get back on their feet.
