Movie Review: Despicable Me 2

In this summer of sequels where titles are likely to have a number attached to their name, I have to admit the one sequel I anticipated was Despicable Me 2. In the original film, we are introduced to Gru, an ersatz villain, with baldpate and pointy-nosed visage, who has grand plans to steal the moon. Gru, as brilliantly voiced by Steve Carrell, is sidetracked from his villainy by finding himself involved with three young girls in need of a parent. The film had tons of charm and lots of laughs as Gru’s humanity is revealed bit by bit, despite his potential villainous proclivities.

International students visiting Cincinnati this summer

The Cincinnati chapter of Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV) is hosting their leadership development camp for a group of 15 year-old students from nine different nations. Our Robyn Carey-Allgeyer learns about the experience from local coordinator Anne Delano Steinert and two of the students taking part.

Portraits in Faith

Daniel Epstein is a long time P&G leader, about to retire from his position as marketing director for a move to Toronto. During his many business travels, he has stayed for extra days to photograph people and discuss the role of faith in their lives. This project, called Portraits in Faith, is now an extensive, beautifully moving website at portraitsinfaith.org. He joins Ron Esposito to discuss the genesis of this project and what future plans he has for the site and a future documentary.

Artist Annie Bolling and the resurgence of Woodburn Ave.

The arts scene on Woodburn Ave. in Walnut Hills continues to grow, and new boutiques and galleries are opening regularly. The next Walk on Woodburn is scheduled for July 12, and local artist Annie Bolling has started The Gallery Project to introduce young people to a wide variety of art forms. Jane Durrell welcomes in Annie Bolling to talk about her project and the resurgence of Woodburn Ave.
