Host Bill Cartwright brings his passion for 1930’s and 40’s era Big Band music to this entertaining Saturday evening showcase honoring the music of the “Golden Age of Radio.”
There are several concerts coming up in Cincinnati for big band enthusiasts:
Xavier University presents the Masters of Swing Series on Sunday, March 24th, 2013, at 3pm. Petra's Recession Seven Band will present the Swing Sounds of the 40's in the XU Gallagher Student Center Theater. They're a 7-piece traditional/swing Chicago-based jazz band formed in 2008. They're led by two SCPA graduates, Petra Van Nuis and guitarist Andy Brown. The band scheduled to perform at XU includes another Cincinnatian, CCM grad/bassist Joe Policastro; clarinetist Kim Cusack; trumpeter Art Davis; trombonist Russ Phillips; and drummer Bob Rummage. http://www.xu.edu/musicseries/
The 47th Annual Musician's Ball will be held Friday, April 12th, from 7-11pm in the Music Hall Ballroom. Featured groups include (1) Paragon with leader Clarence Pawn, (2) The Jazz Carr Big Band, Jerry Robinson, leader and (3) The Paul Wagner Orchestra with leader Pete Wagner. The Four Freshmen will perform as part of XU's Masters of Swing Series on Sunday, April 14th, at 3pm. After 50 some years, 6 Grammy nominations, 45 albums, and several jazz awards, the Four Freshmen remain as popular as ever. This concert is expected to sell out. Ed Polcer and His Jazz All-Stars will perform on Sunday, May 15th at 3pm at XU's Gallagher Student Center Theater. An outstanding trumpeter, Ed Polcer will lead his all-star group on a trip along New York City's famed 52nd Street - long known among music fans as "Swing Street."
