September 21 kicks off the new season of provocative and challenging art exhibits at downtown’s Contemporary Arts Center, so our Jane Durrell welcomes in Curator Steven Matijcio to preview what visitors will see during the next year.
Rebeca Calderon Pittman is a Guatemalan-born artist, now living in Cincinnati, and she is now featured in her first solo exhibition at the Northern Kentucky University Gallery. She and David Knight, gallery director at NKU, join Robyn Carey-Allgeyer to discuss her show (which closes September 20) and the adjacent exhibit of artwork from other local Latino artists.
Rock Paper Scissorsis an art supply and local-music record store coming to Over-The-Rhine in September.
Local artists Adam Petersen and Lindsay Nehls from The Marburg Collective have teamed up with Alisha Budkie of Smartfish Studio & Sustainable Supply to create a shop in the heart of the community (1301 Main Street) that will offer a selection of art supplies, designed to suit the needs of art students, local small businesses, and working and commercial artists. They will also devote a large section of the store to locally-made materials and tools, including handmade charcoals, inks, books, and bags.
