Reds sign free agent infielder to two-year deal

Jack Hannahan, a veteran utility infielder, has become the third Cleveland Indian to join the Cincinnati Reds this week.

The Reds announced this morning that the 32-year Hannahan, a free agent, has signed a two-year contract through the 2014 season, with a club option for 2015.

Terms of the contract were not released.

Hannahan and Reds general manager Walt Jocketty will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. today at Great American Ball Park.

Reds acquire a lead-off hitter in Shin-Soo Choo

The Cincinnat Reds found the lead-off hitter they were looking for Tuesday when they dealt center fielder Drew Stubbs and infield prospect Didi Gregorious to the Cleveland Indians for veteran outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and utility infielder Jason Donald.

Gregorius, a shortstop who appeared in eight games for the Reds in a September call-up, was immediately dealt by the Indians to the Arizona Diamonbacks.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the 30-year-old Choo "can fill the missing parts in our lineup both offensively and defensively."

2012 Redsfest

Even in the midst of the NFL season, baseball in Cincinnati doesn’t seem to have an offseason. Coming December 7 and 8 to the Duke Energy Convention Center is the annual Redsfest, a gathering of fans, past and present players and coaches, and a myriad of displays and activities. To preview this year’s Redsfest, Kathryn Braun, promotional events manager for the Cincinnati Reds, is in The Front Row with Betsy Ross.
