Negro Leagues Baseball Exhibit

Traveling exhibit explores Negro Leagues Baseball.

  In the first half of the 1900s racism and Jim Crow laws kept African-American baseball players from being on the same teams as white players. So in 1920 the Negro National League was formed, soon followed  by other rival Negro Leagues. An exhibit now on display at the Galleries at Sinclair in Dayton, Ohio, Shades of Greatness, is the first collaborative art exhibition inspired by the history of Negro Leagues Baseball.

The Negro League Baseball Museum has organized a traveling exhibition entitled, “Shades of Greatness: Art Inspired by Negro Leagues Baseball.”  The exhibition is on display through March 12th at the art galleries at Sinclair Community College

Negro League star Thomas Turner passes away

Funeral services are this weekend for Thomas "High Pocket" Turner of Georgetown, Ohio, a star of Negro League baseball in the 1940's.  Turner died Monday at the age of 97. 

He played baseball for the Cincinnati Stars in 1936.  He played for his Army team and after that played professionally in Mexico.  In 1947, he played for the Chicago American Giants of the Negro League.
