Dr. Greg Dahlem from Northern Kentucky University’s Department of Biological Sciences joins Thane Maynard to discuss his unique field of study, Forensic Entomology, and his current research trying to unravel the evolutionary relationship of flesh flies and blow flies using DNA.

NKU will become tobacco-free campus

***Update***

The Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents voted unanimously Wednesday to direct the adoption of a tobacco-free campus policy. The board’s action authorizes NKU President Geoffrey Mearns to develop the details of the policy and to appoint a Tobacco-Free Campus Task Force to develop recommendations for the transition and the policy’s implementation. The transition process will include students, faculty, staff and could take up to 18 months

Candidate forum tonight at NKU

Northern Kentucky University will host the second in a series of forums featuring candidates for state and congressional offices in northern Kentucky.

The forum will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the James C. and Rachel M. Votruba Student Union Ballroom.

Tonight's schedule includes:

5:30 p.m. - Brian Linder, Republican candidate for the 61st Kentucky House District.

6 p.m. - Adam Haas, Republican candidate for the 67 Kentucky House District.

6:30 p.m. - William (Bill) Adkins, Democratic candidate for the 4th District U.S. House seat.

Decreased state funding, online institutions among challenges for NKU

NKU president Geoffrey Mearns speaks to the media

Classes begin Monday for students at Northern Kentucky University. Today the president had a message for the people who will teach them.


Nearly four months to the minute after being named president, Geoffrey Mearns stood before faculty and administrators at today's convocation and looked forward. His mission is not without challenges.


State funding is down and Mearns says for-profit online institutions, with increasingly aggressive recruiting tactics, are posing a major threat.
